Common Real Estate Myths

When it comes to the real estate industry, many people are unfamiliar with how the home buying/selling process goes which leads them to have several misconceptions about real estate agents.

Let’s walk through a few common real estate myths:

  1. Commissions Are Non-Negotiable

A common real estate myth involving real estate agents is that the commission they charge is non-negotiable. Some agents may hold firm on their commission rate, others may be more flexible. Before you sign on with a Realtor, it’s important to talk about all aspects of your transaction, including commission, and come to an agreement that works for both you and your agent.

  2. The Buyer & Seller Can Use The Same Agent

Another real estate myth is that it is beneficial for a buyer and seller to use the same real estate agent for the transaction. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. When negotiating terms between a buyer and seller you want to ensure that you are both using separate agents. Your agent is working on your behalf and your best interests so it’s important that your Realtor is impartial to the other parties in the transaction.

  3. You Must Stick With An Agent

Real estate myth number 3 is that you must stick with your agent. Before choosing a Realtor for your next transaction, we cannot stress enough that you do your research ahead of time. Doing your due diligence will drastically increase the likelihood that you have a positive experience, but in the event that things don’t turn out how you imagined you can terminate your relationship with an agent. Obviously, this situation is not ideal and can set back your search or sale, so that is why we highly recommend that you start your transaction on the right foot.
